1) Notting Hill

Set in Notting Hill, (shocking, I know) this is a story about dreams coming true in the most believable way. The main character -- William Thacker -- a divorcee who lives with his slightly odd-yet-amusing flat mate Spike -- runs a travel book shop in Notting Hill, London. It is there that he first meets Anna Scott, the most famous actress of the time. After a few bumps in the road, the two eventually get to know each other over the course of a few months, becoming good friends as well as developing feelings for one another. I'd recommend this to anyone, its a true credit to Roger Michell (director), and is bound to put a smile on you face.
Also features an excellent soundtrack including the songs: Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers and She by Elvin Costello.
2) You've Got Mail

I adore this film. Set in 90s Manhattan, the film follows the lives of two business rivals, who, unknown to them, have been anonymously talking to (and falling for) each other over email. Kathleen Kelly, an independent children's book store owner, seems to have everything figured out except for her love life. Joe Fox, a millionaire mega-chain bookstore owner, has the same problem. Both stuck in relationships with people they know are not right for each other, the two eventually bump into each other when Joe begins building a mega-store that with put Kathleen out of business, Becoming rivals in-person, they do everything they can to thwart each others businesses, however eventually begin to fall for one another.
3) Four Weddings and a Funeral

Who doesn't love a wedding? I'l tell you - the sad saps who watch all their mates get married yet struggle to find someone to so much as have a cup of tea with. Meet Charles, a hopeless romantic with a fear of marriage, who becomes instantly smitten with Carrie - an American - at one of his friends weddings. Over the course of a few months, they continues to bump into each other, and Charles soon finds himself in love with her. Set in London, this film is a tale of happiness, sadness, love, loss, missed opportunities, awkward conversations and most importantly - marriage.
4) Sleepless in Seattle

This is a real gem - and, just like the other films in this post - one of my absolute favourites. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are reunited (You've got Mail came after, however this is their second film together, the first being Joe Versus the Volcano) on the set of Sleepless in Seattle, a story about two individuals who both feel as if there is something missing from their lives. Sam Baldwin, an architect who has recently lost his wife Maggie to cancer, moves away to Seattle with his 8 year old son, Jonah, in order to gain a fresh start. Come the christmas after Maggie's death, Jonah calls up a radio station and tells them that his dad needs a new wife. Jonah convinces Sam to speak on the show, and he talks about how much he misses his wife. Unknown to him, thousands of women across America are listening in, and are touched by Sam's story. One woman - Annie Reid -- who is recently engaged to her boyfriend Walter, listens in and begins to realise that Walter might not be the one for her, and begins looking for Sam. Set in both Seattle and New York, this film is a joy to watch and I'd definitely recommend to anyone.
5) 10 Things I Hate About You

A modern retelling of The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, 10 Things I Hate About You tells the story of two highschoolers - the first, Katarina Stratford, an antisocial shrewish teen who despises popularity and the stereotypes of being a girl, and the second, Patrick Verona, the 'bad boy' who is paid to take Katarina out so that her beautiful younger sister Bianca can start dating too. Of course though, nothing goes to plan and the two end up liking each other, however are afraid to admit it. Filled with teenage angst, 10 Things I Hate About You is a classic 90s watch.
